CakeWrecks pretty much makes me cry of laughter every day with horrendous and embarrassing cake decorating fails. Every Sunday, however, they share cakes that wouldn't make you cry if they showed up at your wedding. It's nice to know that not every cake has to have words/names misspelled!

Also, for National Clean Your Virtual Desktop Day, here is a DIY Computer Maintenance Checklist from Apartment Therapy to keep your virtual desktop running smoothly for years to come.

Happy grouching!

Rubber Eraser Day, Titanic Remembrance Day, Diamond Month
Sorry, folks, I got nothing. Zero motivation. Zero creativity. Zero energy. I'm all funned out. Have a wonderful Saturday and take a second to appreciate the great things in your life. Maybe start planning a cruise to pay homage to the Titanic =) Ha! Probably not.
Happy remembering!

Bed-In for Peace Day, Atheist Pride Day, First Day of Spring, Kiss Your Fiancee Day, Won't You Be My Neighbor Day,
Extraterrestrial Abductions Day

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?

It's a neighborly day in this beautywood,
A neighborly day for a beauty,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you,
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So let's make the most of this beautiful day,
Since we're together, we might as well say,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?

Won't you please,
Won't you please,
Please won't you be my neighbor?
Hi, blog neighbor, I'm glad we're together again!

Mr. Rogers was the best. . . and I love that there's a picture of him flipping the camera off floating around. It makes me love him more. What a great dude!
(P. S. U-F-O = Unexpected Flipping Off!)

Here's a few things to help you bed-in for peace! And I CANNOT believe it's spring already!

Twenty Something Dreamer
blew my mind with this to-die-for hammock thing.
Also, Vintage Revivals totally made me want to watch Bedknobs & Brooksticks 100 times thanks to this bed! I want one!
Happy Abduction Day!

Another week has come and gone without a single post from me. Hopefully, you enjoy the collection of fabulous crafts, recipes, pictures and quotes and it will help you forget your sadness. Happy Friday!

February 12: Abraham Lincoln's Birthday, Man Day, Oglethorpe Day, Safety Pup Day
"Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm." Abraham Lincoln
February 13: Plum Pudding Day, Get a Different Name Day, Clean out Your Computer Day, Madly in Love with Me Day

My team at Little Britches got their valentines early! I got this idea from Tatertots & Jello and everyone loved them! Super easy, super fun, super sweet, super awesome!
For Madly in Love with Me Day, I actually did it! Remember last week's post with a link to Katy at Sweet Verbana?? I did it! The one on the left is Katy's and the one on the right is mine!! Couldn't find a comfy white t-shirt, so I went with a lime green from Michaels. I used teal dye and while it didn't turn out perfectly, I really think there is potential here. And now I see the world in "what can I put on a shirt?"
February 14: National Organ Donor Day, Valentine's Day, Ferris Wheel Day, Singles Awareness Day

Here's an excellent way to honor National Organ Donor Day. Go to this site and register as an organ donor in your state. You're helping people (in the unfortunate event that you end up not needing your own organs) AND you get a nice heart on your driver's license!

I made chocolate covered strawberries for my dear boyfriend this Valentine's Day. RealSimple had an incredibly easy recipe and it took me almost no time at all. But don't tell Justin. They turned out perfectly and he thinks they were very hard to make. The ease of this recipe is indirectly proportionate to my love of Justin. AKA VERY easy because I love him TONS! Did I explain that alright?

February 15: National Gum Drop Day
February 16: Do a Grouch a Favor Day, Innovation Day
February 17: Random Acts of Kindness Day, My Way Day

Odie is now officially healthier than he ever was! He's a toothbrusher! Yippee! As a dental hygienist, I was a bit mortified when the vet said he had gingivitis. No more! He super-adorably munches on dental treats, lets me scale tartar off his teeth and LOVES his new puppy toothpaste!! Ahh!!

Oh my gosh, have you heard of Wunderlist yet?! It's an awesome organizing ap for us OCD folks. Slap it on your phone or computer and you've got to-do lists, grocery lists, or whatever kind of lists you can think of at your fingertips. It's awesome!
Happy celebrating!

_Opposite Day, A Room of One's Own Day, Mac Computer Day
_Well, I just had my first official blog meltdown and only two days after officially publishing it. I didn't realize I was only making pages for each day and not real "blogs". So I got to spend 6 1/2 hours transferring stuff from a "page" to a "blog". A Room of One's Own for me today needs padded walls.

All I've got is a few quotes from The Man, Steve Jobs. Pretty inspirational dude. I need to make this short because my hands are about to fall off and my pup needs a walk (read: needs to be carried around outside)
_"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."

"Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected."

"Stay hungry. Stay foolish."
_P. S. See how I celebrated Opposite Day? My sign off was the title! So clever, I know! ;-)
XO again, anyway! . . . . . . .  Eek! I can't help it! I need to share more!! Here are a few dream rooms of my own! XOXOXO

_Penguin Awareness Day, International Fetish Day
_Even though International Fetish Day is meant to celebrate BDSM, I chose a more gentle approach to today's holidays. In honor of Penguin Awareness Day, I would like to share some of my favorite blacks and whites in recipes, art, style, photos and decor.

_Kristi at 30 Pounds of Apples shared this awesome DIY for Hot Chocolate Sticks. I'm afraid Justin would end up just eating the chocolate off the ends before I could actually make hot cocoa out of them, but, hey, they're cute!
_I am unintentionally celebrating a more accurate International Fetish Day. This week we had to take our little Odie to the vet hospital and found out he has a herniated disc. A lifetime of living in the penthouse suites (2nd floor and above) has left with confined to a small area, no running and no walks for the foreseeable future. I can tell you Odie is not a fan of bondage. We took him for a walk yesterday, wrapped in a blanket, but it just wasn't the same. Poor little dude.
_Maybe if our stairs looked like this it wouldn't have hurt his back so much? Probably not. . .
_I've added this to my list of things to put on my wall about 100 times. I swear, it's going to happen. Probably not until our next residence (November 2012 - ten months WooHoo!), but it's going to happen!
_My mom introduced me to this cake and I brought it (in cupcake form) to a Thanksgiving dinner. People were literally dying and going to heaven after taking one bite. It made for an interesting party, but at least they died happy!

No, but seriously, the Chocolate Guinness (cup)Cake(s) were a major hit and it only takes like a cup of Guinness so you get about 5 bottles leftover to enjoy!
_ModCloth has this beautiful dress called "When the Night Comes" . . . I want a fancy occasion to wear this dress to. Any weddings coming up??
_Here are some fun penguin facts thanks to penguinfacts.net.
- Penguins are birds (Justin seems to think this is like saying "Dogs are dogs." Not true.)
- They don't fly, they use their wings for swimming at a pace of about 15mph.
- Are you a member of the United States Libertarian Party? Better think about getting this unofficial symbol tattooed on your bicep. Or better yet, your tail-feather! I crack myself up!
- Penguin = "pen" meaning head and "gwyn" meaning white.
- Penguins are ancient species that appeared 40 million years ago in the Eocene Epoch!
- They usually move in huge groups called colonies or rookery.
- There are at least 18 difference species of penguins.
- There may be as many as 100 millions penguins in the world, but they can be endangered by oil spills, water pollution and over harvesting of fish, squid or krill.
- They mate for life. . .  how adorable!
                                                  "Let's have a penguin-type of love!"
_Happy bonding!

_Lemon Chicken & Asparagus - Sing for Your Supper

Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil, plus more for the asparagus
2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 yellow bell pepper, chopped or cut into thin strips
1 cup chicken broth
1 tablespoon flour
salt and pepper
juice of one large lemon
1 bunch fresh asparagus

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with foil. Lay the asparagus in a single layer on the baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper and bake for about 6-8 minutes, until just barely tender. Set aside.

Meanwhile, heat the 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook, turning the pieces so they cook evenly, for about 5 minutes. Add in the peppers. Cook for an additional 5 minutes then using a slotted spoon, transfer the chicken and peppers to a plate and set aside.
Reduce heat to medium-low and whisk the flour into the drippings left in the skillet. Slowly whisk in the chicken broth. Add salt, pepper and lemon juice. Whisk constantly until the sauce starts to thicken slightly. Add the chicken and peppers back in and cook for 5-7 minutes.

Spoon the chicken, peppers and sauce over the asparagus and serve. Oh my gosh, yum!!

_Fried Asparagus - Cooking Ventures

Ingredients:
1 lb asparagus (thin stalks)
1 1/2 c dry seasoned breadcrumbs
1 c freshly grated parmesan cheese
1 1/2 tsp seasoned salt
4 eggs, beaten
Oil for frying

Directions:
Wash and dry the asparagus. Snap or cut the fibrous root ends off and discard. Thin stalks work best for this recipe since thicker stalks are too fibrous.

In a shallow dish, combine the seasoned breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, and seasoned salt and mix well to combine. Set aside. In another shallow dish, beat the eggs and set aside. Place a rack in a sheet pan and set aside. Start preheating the oven to 200F.

Dip a few stalk of the asparagus on the eggs and allow some of the egg to drip off. Coat in the breadcrumb mixture. Re-dip the asparagus in the egg and the breadcrumbs to add a thicker layer of coating. Place the breaded asparagus on a sheet pan (not the sheet pan that has the rack in it). Repeat this process with the remaining stalks of asparagus.

Shallow fry the asparagus in 1/2" of oil (preferably peanut oil). Heat about 1" of oil in a medium skillet over medium heat until it is shimmering. When the oil is hot, fry the asparagus until golden brown, which should only take a minute or so. They cook fast! Transfer to the sheet pan equipped with a rack and place the pan in the oven to keep warm will you fry the remaining stalks of asparagus.

Thanks to Rosie at Sweetapolita for sharing this incredibly realistic asparagus cake! Trick those picky eaters into trying this veggie! Check out the site to see how yummy the inside looks. . .  Oh, my!
_I want to give a quick shout out to my wonderful cousin, Nichole (and her hat!) Love you!!

Happy National Hat Day, Religious Freedom Day and Asparagus Month!!
