What a wild week it's been. Where to begin. . . I drove down to Colorado Springs to fill in at an office I would KILL to work at. Met more really awesome people and had a pretty disastrous camping trip that actually turned out to be not-so-bad. Found a stray dog. Adopted said dog. Very crazy ten days.  I hope you had an awesome end to your May. Here's a list to catch you up on your holidays you've been so desperately awaiting!
May 21 - National Memo Day, National Waiters and Waitresses Day, Rapture Party Day

So many Morse code crafts, I don't even know where to begin! I LOVE the idea of crafting hidden messages all over my wardrobe. Maybe some Morse Art coming up next??

May 27 - Sunscreen Day
May 28 - Amnesty International Day, Memorial Day
May 29 - Learn About Composting Day
May 30 - Water a Flower Day

Colorado is suffering from major wildfires right now so it's not exactly the most fun thing trying to breathe outside. I am lacking a need for sunscreen since I'm holed up in my dark apartment to keep the heat (and smoke) out. Let's travel to three places you might actually want to enjoy the sun and NEED sunscreen.
I want to sit on this dock with my feet dipped in the water and lather on the sunscreen until the sun goes does. Would you join me in Hungary for some dock-time? Come on!
Or maybe Canada is more your style? Watching the sunset over Lake Superior sounds like another one of those times that you would need ample lotion to protect you from the sun. Oh, Lake Superior, how I miss you.
Last, but certainly not least - a natural swimming pool in Samoa. I'm sure I would have a pretty hard time wanting to leave these crystal waters to reapply sunblock. Alas, I'm a fair-skinned strawberry blonde and would sizzle into oblivion if I didn't!
May 31 - National Macaroon Day, Save Your Hearing Day, World No Tobacco Day, What You Think Upon Grows Day

Have you read "The Art of Racing in the Rain"?? A quote that pops up a couple of times in this amazing book is "Your car goes where your eyes go" and I think that goes hand in hand with "What you think upon grows" - What an awesome way to live At-Cause in your life! Celebrate the things you have brought into your life and the things you have continued to grow by thinking on them! Congrats!

P. S. To save your hearing - I'm addicted to my Jack Johnson station on Pandora. Perfect for summertime, if I say so myself!
Happy sizzling!

Charity Navigator has a top ten list of everything you could ever want to know about charities. HERE is their Top Ten Tips for Savvy Donors.

I am torn between Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society and Dumb Friends League in Denver. SO - I'm going to split my donation in two and donate to both!

Scrabble Day, Pet First Aid Awareness Month

Thank you, in advance, to the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as the American Animal Hospital Association (AAMA) for tips to help keep our little ones safe. By "little ones" I mean our pets. Of course. I have a 7lb Chihuahua named Odie and {knock-on-wood} he has had a pretty mellow, non-dramatic, unexciting life. We may not always be so lucky and for that reason I am thankful for Pet First Aid Awareness month for drawing attention to something that you don't always think about - Keeping our pets safe.

Pet First Aid Kit Must Haves according to the AAMA.
More helpful items for your Pet First Aid Kit from the Human Society.

Last, but not least - Here are a few things you would never even think could harm your pet. Poisonous Plants & Poisonous People Foods. Noteworthy notables = potato "eyes", daffodil bulbs, and apple seeds. . . avocados, onions and marijuana. Walnuts? Oh and have you heard of xylitol?? Jesus, I'm freaking myself out - Must. Clean. Kitchen. . . . . . . . . Breathe . . . Odie knows better than to. . . . . . . .
                                         - - - - HEY! Get away from that brownie!!

I hope these sites help a bit now that I sparked your curiosity. Keep those pets safe!
Happy awareness raising!

National Day of Unplugging, National Puppy Day, Near Miss Day, OK Day

Well, I tried to stay mostly unplugged today,
but I just couldn't help posting these ridiculous puppy pictures.
I mean, seriously.

Happy awwwing!

Of course my blog ate my last post. Why wouldn't it? Well, just in case there is anyone out there actually reading this, I'll try again.

Peace out, February. I am not sad at all that it is March tomorrow. February is pretty much the lamest month in the history of months. Although, I must admit, it's pretty cool that it gets a random extra day every four years. No other month has that.

But even with all the fun holidays and Leap Year Day, I still haven't been able to shake my lingering hatred of February. This stems from living in Michigan my whole life. You know what Michigan looks like in February? Poop. Yep, a big grey turd.

Colorado, on the other hand, is beautiful. . . usually. This year it is trying to be like Michigan. And I am NOT down with this. Anywho, on with the holidays!
February 19: National Chocolate Mint Day
I've never been much of a chocolate-mint fan, but in honor of today, I have two words for you: Thin. Mints. I mean, seriously, Girl Scouts. . . How cruel can you be? There is nothing THIN about Thin Mints except for the fact that they are tiny enough that you tend to justify eating 73 in one sitting. To re-celebrate National Chocolate Mint Day, check out Ashton at Something Swanky's plethora of Thin Mint recipes! Thin Mint Cookie Dough Truffles, Thin Mint Diet Coke Cake, Thin Mint Pudding Mousse and Thin Mint Magic Cookie Bars.
February 20: Cherry Pie Day, Love Your Pet Day, Northern Hemisphere Hoodie Hoo Day
Mitchell and Ferguson
(aka, Figaro & Fig among other names!)
Chev, the cat (his purr sounded like a Chevi engine!)

Below is a tribute to the pets I most adored in my childhood
Kirby, my first dog.
And, of course, Odie-mutt!!
Check out some of these fun pie ideas for Cherry Pie Day!

Brown Eyed Baker's Cherry Crisp
looks delicious!

Simply Recipes helps us out with a
Sweet Cherry Pie recipe!

(Complete with a recipe for
the Perfect Pie Crust,
not just saying "frozen pie crust")

I love these damn Pie Pops
(or Pies-on-a-Stick. . .)
Let's come up with a name for these! from Style Me Pretty!
February 21: Card Reading Day, Paczki Day, Fat Tuesday

What are you giving up for Lent? I know it is a very Jeso-Centric time, but most people end up giving up some kind of food to help them lose weight. I was going to give up swearing, but that hasn't happened yet. Every time I drop the F-Bomb, I think "Didn't you say you wanted to stop doing that?" I'm trying, people!

Anyway, instead of focusing on THAT, let's focus on the best day of the whole year: Paczki Day!! It breaks my heart that Coloradoans haven't yet experienced the joys of Paczki Day, but I intend to help them see the light. Thanks to Royal Bakery in Arvada, CO (The ONLY bakery in ALL of Colorado that has Paczki) I shared the love. Yum! Yum! Yum!
February 22: George Washington's Birthday, Be Humble Day, Ash Wednesday, Walk the Dog Day, National Margarita Day

I'm pretty pissed that I missed Margarita Day. Looks like I'll have to celebrate it every day for an entire week instead to make up for it!!

Odie went on his first official walk post-back-problems. We went up to Eastlake Reservoir #3 for a 1.4mile walk and he did great! There's a bronzed fox statue that freaked him out towards the end, but otherwise awesome! I'm so glad he's getting back to his normal self. Just wondering what this summer is going to look like. Since we took him hiking so many trails with us last summer, I'm wondering if the old man'll be able to handle it this year. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Then again, this is pretty much what he felt about hiking last year! Ahahahaha!
I'm running out of steam, people. Here's a few days that didn't get me going too much.

February 23: International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day, Tennis Day, Curling is Cool Day, National Chili Day
February 24: National Tortilla Chip Day
February 25: International Sword Swallowers Day, Open that Bottle Night
February 26: Carnival Day, National Pistachio Day, Tell a Fairy Tale Day, For Pete's Sake Day
February 27: Polar Bear Day

Kind of boring, right? I made dog treats for my friends for Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day. Did you know that wheat isn't really good for dogs? Me neither, but next recipe I make will be gluten-free, guaranteed!

National Tortilla Chip Day is pretty much every day in our house. We LOVE chips and guacamole! Delish!
February 28: Floral Design Day, National Tooth Fairy Day

Then of course - National Tooth Fairy Day! I dressed up as a tooth fairy about 100 years ago for Halloween, while I was still in Dental Hygiene School. God, that feels like forever ago!

We put crowns and fillings on fake teeth that I then made into earrings, a necklace and bling for my top!

February 29: Leap Day, Bachelors' Day
HAPPY LEAP YEAR!!
Oh, PS: For Floral Design Day, go to this site for the meanings of flowers. It is inspiring me to think about a tattoo idea. . .
Phew, I made it!

Happy relaxing!

_National Kazoo Day, Intimate Apparel Week
_KimberlyRAWR's picture from DeviantArt says it all . . . I got nothin'. I'm drawing a complete blank on National Kazoo Day and can't really wrap my head around how to celebrate Intimate Apparel Week other than that I've been wearing fancy undies all week. Not that anyone needed/wanted to know that, but hey, I'm still celebrating!

So, I apologize for the lack of excitement about today. National Kazoo Day just seems like one of those days.

Please forgive me! Check out Threadcakes or google "Basset Hounds Running" if you're bored and need a good giggle.

Happy forgiving!

_National Hugging Day, Fancy Rat & Mouse Day
_Did you know there was an American Fancy Rat & Mouse Association? Neither did I!! From what I've gathered, being a member makes you either a Mouse Fancier or Rat Person. Not only do they have embroidered polos for purchase, they offer Rat Hammocks in every color imaginable.  I admire the people that can truly love rats. That takes some guts.
_Actually, you know what, I take it back! I take it back! Rats ARE cute!!
Jessica Florence has taken some damn adorable pictures of some rats. OMG, seriously.
_Purple rat sweater!
Oh, jeez.
_They're hugging. And they're rats.
AND their tails make a heart shape. . .
*sigh*
_And also, holy crap, cute mice!
_I just. Can't. Get enough! This is ridiculous.
_<3
He's so hungry!
_I'm literally tearing up. My eyes are watering due to the cuteness. I take back the prior joking. These little dudes are seriously fancy and adorable.
_And here I was, thinking today would be all about hugging. "No one is going to possibly want to hear about fancy rats or mice, WTH?" I hope you were able to hug to your heart's content, but I ALSO hope you were able to see another side of rats and mice. . .  fancy or otherwise. My mind is surely blown.
_Happy hugging!

_Penguin Awareness Day, International Fetish Day
_Even though International Fetish Day is meant to celebrate BDSM, I chose a more gentle approach to today's holidays. In honor of Penguin Awareness Day, I would like to share some of my favorite blacks and whites in recipes, art, style, photos and decor.

_Kristi at 30 Pounds of Apples shared this awesome DIY for Hot Chocolate Sticks. I'm afraid Justin would end up just eating the chocolate off the ends before I could actually make hot cocoa out of them, but, hey, they're cute!
_I am unintentionally celebrating a more accurate International Fetish Day. This week we had to take our little Odie to the vet hospital and found out he has a herniated disc. A lifetime of living in the penthouse suites (2nd floor and above) has left with confined to a small area, no running and no walks for the foreseeable future. I can tell you Odie is not a fan of bondage. We took him for a walk yesterday, wrapped in a blanket, but it just wasn't the same. Poor little dude.
_Maybe if our stairs looked like this it wouldn't have hurt his back so much? Probably not. . .
_I've added this to my list of things to put on my wall about 100 times. I swear, it's going to happen. Probably not until our next residence (November 2012 - ten months WooHoo!), but it's going to happen!
_My mom introduced me to this cake and I brought it (in cupcake form) to a Thanksgiving dinner. People were literally dying and going to heaven after taking one bite. It made for an interesting party, but at least they died happy!

No, but seriously, the Chocolate Guinness (cup)Cake(s) were a major hit and it only takes like a cup of Guinness so you get about 5 bottles leftover to enjoy!
_ModCloth has this beautiful dress called "When the Night Comes" . . . I want a fancy occasion to wear this dress to. Any weddings coming up??
_Here are some fun penguin facts thanks to penguinfacts.net.
- Penguins are birds (Justin seems to think this is like saying "Dogs are dogs." Not true.)
- They don't fly, they use their wings for swimming at a pace of about 15mph.
- Are you a member of the United States Libertarian Party? Better think about getting this unofficial symbol tattooed on your bicep. Or better yet, your tail-feather! I crack myself up!
- Penguin = "pen" meaning head and "gwyn" meaning white.
- Penguins are ancient species that appeared 40 million years ago in the Eocene Epoch!
- They usually move in huge groups called colonies or rookery.
- There are at least 18 difference species of penguins.
- There may be as many as 100 millions penguins in the world, but they can be endangered by oil spills, water pollution and over harvesting of fish, squid or krill.
- They mate for life. . .  how adorable!
                                                  "Let's have a penguin-type of love!"
_Happy bonding!
